Dual Light Control

Motorized Zebra Shades

Two looks in one shade — the most versatile window treatment available right now.

What Makes Zebra Shades Different

More interesting than a standard roller shade.

A zebra shade — also called a vision shade or banded shade — is built from alternating horizontal bands of sheer and solid fabric. When the bands are aligned so sheer meets sheer, light passes through and you have a soft, filtered view. When you shift the shade so solid meets solid, the bands close and you have privacy and light control.

The result is a single shade that functions in two distinct modes. In the morning, you let the light in through the sheer bands. In the afternoon, when the sun is direct, you shift to the solid bands for privacy and glare control. It's more nuanced than a standard roller shade, and it looks more interesting — the banded pattern has a quiet visual texture that a flat roller shade doesn't.

The motorized version makes the dual-mode function genuinely practical. Shifting between sheer and solid on a manual zebra shade requires finding the exact position — easy enough, but something you'll do multiple times a day. With motorization, you set two positions (sheer and solid) and switch between them with a tap or a voice command.

Zebra shades are currently one of the most requested window treatments in contemporary homes. They work particularly well in living rooms, dining rooms, and home offices — spaces where you want flexibility throughout the day. They're less common in bedrooms, where most people prefer a blackout option, though a zebra shade layered with a blackout liner is a workable solution.

We carry zebra shade fabrics in a range of colors and textures, from crisp whites and warm linens to deeper charcoals and soft grays. The fabric quality matters significantly with zebra shades — the bands need to align precisely, and cheaper fabrics can stretch or warp over time. We only carry products we're confident in.

Visual Texture

The alternating band pattern adds a quiet visual interest that a flat roller shade doesn't have. It reads as intentional design, not just a functional covering.

Available in a range of colors and textures. Band width and fabric weight affect both the look and the light-control performance.

Smart Home Compatible

Integrates with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Lutron. Schedule them to shift automatically at different times of day.

Blackout Liner Option

For bedrooms or media rooms that need full darkness, a zebra shade can be paired with a blackout liner for complete light control.
