Why Plantation Shutters
The last window treatment you'll ever choose.
Custom plantation shutters are one of the most transformative window treatments a homeowner can choose. In Las Vegas, where desert light is intense and interiors are designed to feel considered, they bring a sense of permanence and refinement that fabric treatments simply cannot match. At Wallpaper Elegance, we've been helping Las Vegas families find exactly the right shutter solution since 1992.
Plantation shutters are built to endure. Unlike fabric shades or blinds, they don't fade, sag, or require replacement every few years. They hold their shape through Nevada's temperature extremes, clean with a damp cloth, and look as refined in year fifteen as they did on the day they were hung.
The choice between wood and composite comes down to your environment. Real wood shutters carry an authentic warmth that composite cannot fully replicate — but they're not ideal for rooms with significant humidity. Composite shutters are moisture-resistant, dimensionally stable, and virtually indistinguishable from wood at a glance. For most Las Vegas homes, composite is the more considered long-term choice.
Louver sizing shapes both the aesthetic and the function. Smaller louvers (2.5 inch) lend a traditional character and offer slightly more privacy. Larger louvers (3.5 or 4.5 inch) deliver a cleaner, more contemporary profile and an unobstructed view when open. Our Design Concierge team will guide you to the right choice for your windows and your vision.
Full-height plantation shutters cover the entire window with quiet authority. Café-style shutters cover only the lower half, drawing light from above while preserving privacy at eye level — a refined choice for street-facing rooms and kitchens.

Options & Considerations
What to Know Before You Choose
Wood vs. Composite
Real wood has warmth and authenticity. Composite is moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable — important in Las Vegas where temperature swings are significant.
Louver Sizing
2.5" for traditional, 3.5" for transitional, 4.5" for contemporary. Larger louvers mean a cleaner look and a better view when open.
Full Height vs. Café Style
Full height covers the entire window. Café style covers the lower half only — ideal for street-facing rooms where you want light from above but privacy at eye level.
UV Protection
Las Vegas sun is intense. Shutters provide excellent UV protection for furniture, flooring, and artwork — more so than most fabric treatments.
Energy Efficiency
Shutters create an insulating air pocket between the glass and the room, helping to moderate temperature and reduce energy costs year-round.
Resale Value
Shutters are one of the few window treatments that are considered a home improvement rather than a furnishing. They stay with the house and add to its value.
