Cellular Shades

The honeycomb structure that traps air and keeps your home cooler in summer, warmer in winter.

Why Cellular Shades

The window treatment that works for your energy bill.

Cellular shades — also called honeycomb shades — are named for the hexagonal air pockets built into their structure. These cells trap air between the window glass and the room, creating an insulating barrier that slows heat transfer in both directions.

In Las Vegas, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 110°F and air conditioning runs for months at a time, this matters. A well-insulated window covering can meaningfully reduce the heat gain through your windows, which translates directly to lower cooling costs. In winter, the same insulating effect keeps heat inside.

Single-cell shades have one layer of honeycomb cells and provide good insulation. Double-cell shades have two layers and provide better insulation — the right choice for rooms with large windows, south or west-facing exposures, or older windows with less inherent insulation.

Beyond energy efficiency, cellular shades are clean and simple in appearance. They stack neatly at the top of the window, they're available in a wide range of colors and opacities, and they work well in almost any room. Cordless and motorized options are available — cordless is the standard choice for most rooms, and motorized is worth considering for high or hard-to-reach windows.

For bedrooms, a blackout cellular shade is one of the best options available — it combines the light-blocking performance of a blackout shade with the insulating benefit of the honeycomb structure. For living rooms and offices, a light-filtering cellular shade lets in soft, diffused light while still providing privacy and UV protection.

Options & Considerations

Choosing the Right Cellular Shade

Single vs. Double Cell

Single cell is good. Double cell is better — two layers of air pockets provide superior insulation. Worth the upgrade for large or south/west-facing windows.

Light Filtering vs. Blackout

Light filtering diffuses sunlight and provides privacy while keeping the room bright. Blackout blocks light almost entirely — ideal for bedrooms and media rooms.

Cordless Operation

The standard choice for most rooms. Cleaner appearance, safer for homes with children, and easier to operate than corded versions.

Motorized Option

Practical for high windows, large windows, or anyone who wants to automate their window coverings. Integrates with most smart home systems.

Top-Down / Bottom-Up

A configuration that lets you lower the shade from the top while keeping the bottom raised — light from above, privacy at eye level.

Nevada Climate Performance

Cellular shades are particularly well-suited to desert climates with extreme temperature swings. The insulating cells help moderate both summer heat and winter cold.
